Does this question concern you as much as it concerns me? If the answer is yes, then this blog is going to be very helpful if you’re planning to visit Shimla as a tourist or already are an inhabitant of the city.
Shimla, a city delineated by snow capped Himalayas, is known for its scenic picturesque; nevertheless, in the recent times we have witnessed a plethora of new cafes and food joints burgeoning in the city.Since, this is my 1st blog on eatery, so folks trust me I have only considered places which are easy to get to. So here are the top eating joints in no particular order.
1.Wild Flower Hall:
As the name indicates, the hotel was named after ‘junglee phool’ of the nearby forests. This is definitely not a place to visit everyday because it’s a daylight robbery. But if you’re looking for something different and away from the hustle-bustle of the main city or looking for a place to celebrate some special occasion then this is the place. They have some exquisite food with a hell lot of complimentary side dishes to fill your stomach. The staff is sociable and will take care of each and every demand. So if you haven’t visited yet or are looking for place which not only gives you an incredible view but an even better & wondrous atmosphere – IT’S A MUST VISIT.
PS- they take you for a hotel tour as well, which I think is a BONUS !!

2. Shimla Times
This place has everything which was missing in Shimla.
Since it is situated on the mall Road, so it’s not very difficult to locate the Café.
Live music, OPEN BAR, piquant food with a great view of the entire city. The wall/ceiling is painted depicting famous attractions of the city. The sitting area is divided into three parts.
PS- Don’t forget to try the shakes, tomato basil soup, wood fired pizza, garlic bread !!

3. Hide Out Cafe
The top one recommended by Trip Advisor is this place, it might not be spacious but one amazing place I must say. It’s a Bakery cum Café. It is centrally located and has the view of the mall road. Take a seat next to the window and watch the people on the mall going by while you enjoy your cup of tea.
PS- Try their Quiche, banana pie, teas, coffee, pasta !!
4. Himachali Rasoi
Looking for authentic Himachali food in Shimla? Your wait is over. The Himachal Rasoi brings you traditional food of Himachal under one roof.
The restaurant is run by a hospitable couple and they make the whole experience just so pleasant. The food is cooked by the owner himself.
They have Kangri Dham, Mandyali Dham, Sidu, Channe ka khatta,Kaddu ka khatta, Sepu Vadi (I’m absolutely drooling while typing this). This place is very different and one of a kind in Shimla. So take off your shoes and experience some traditional eating.
PS- try almost EVERY DISH !!

5.Vik’s Kitchen
This one is a newbie and located a bit away from the main town (Khalini). It’s a three storied building, the top two are restaurants and the bottom one is a bakery. The place is quite colorful and beautifully decorated. They have a professional chef from England who cooks flavorsome food and offers a lot of varieties.
PS- Street Food is worth trying!

6. Wake n Bake
Oh yes, the famous ‘wake n bake’ Café is a piece of cake in the center of the Mall. The ambiance, food and the view all in one. This place has some palatable food options. Crepes, Hummus n Pita and Carrot cake are few favorites which you have to try. This multi storied cafe is very famous amongst the youth. The chill positive vibes of this place are something that one longs for time and again. And I have to say this place is not just about the food but the overall atmosphere which you only get here.
7. Cafe Sol
Have craving for Mexcian or Italian food? Café Sol has it all.Though they have a big menu which includes Indian, Chinese and Thai; but, Mexican and Italian top the list. This cafe is spacious and cozy with a colorful fun roof top. They even have open terrace and bar. The overall aura of the place is splendid.
PS- try the Mexican salad, Mezze Platter & coffee.

8. Fascination
This place is suitable for every age group. Even though the ambiance is not praiseworthy, but the delicious Indian food compensates for the lacunae. So if you want to satiate your zest for the desi food, this place is a must visit.
PS- try Butter Chicken, Veg Sizzler & the famous SAMOSAS!

Best of this lot for ma money is Himachali Rasoi, for a truly unique Himachali Food experience, unavailable else where. The food is true to traditional and very neat n fresh. My favorite is Savoury Siddu, followed by Kangri Dham, topped by a sweet Siddu, for a true Himachali delight. This place is a MUST VISIT on any trip to Shimla.
